On April 2nd, SCAN and its Allies in Prevention Coalition honored five local heroes for their work to protect children and support families in Northern Virginia. The event also served as the kick-off for the 2013 Northern Virginia Child Abuse Prevention Campaign.

Keynote Speaker: Heather Higgins, The Upside Down Organization
Heather is the Director of Training and Development for the Upside Down Organization. Established in 2007, The Upside Down Organization (UDO) has built its reputation on providing high quality, dynamic learning experiences for child-serving professionals in the United States and abroad. Partnered with The Children’s Guild and functioning as its external training arm, UDO is unique in that it doesn't just offer professional development – it serves children and families every day. Heather has been practicing Social Work for over a decade in Baltimore, Maryland focusing her efforts on working with children and families.
Special Guest: Leon Harris, ABC7 / WJLA-TV
Award-winning journalist Leon Harris anchors the 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts for ABC7/WJLA-TV. Leon has participated in past Allies in Prevention Awards Luncheons, and now sits on SCAN's Honorary Board of Directors.
