ABC7: The number of abuse cases forcing kids into foster care is rising.

August 28, 2020

Stuck inside our four walls, many are suffering, especially our children. It’s why ABC7’s Ashlie Rodriguez sat down with a court-appointed special advocate to talk about what we can do as a community to protect the most vulnerable from being stuck in abusive situations.

“Our kids are very isolated right now,” said Amy Wilker, Director of the Alexandria and Arlington CASA Program.

Children are placed in foster care because of suspected neglect or abuse by their parents. It’s a tough experience, made more difficult by the pandemic. Now relatives can’t visit, they’re not in school, and living with a new family they don’t know. And during COVID-19, the number of abuse cases forcing kids into the system is rising.
