Family Support
Parenting is tough. SCAN is here for families.
We connect parents and caregivers with one another so they know they are not alone on the journey of raising children. Our programs, workshops, and events bring families together to celebrate their joys and address challenges in a safe, supportive environment.
Institutional Abuse Prevention
Creating safe spaces that prioritize children’s rights.
We believe organizations have a legal and moral obligation to protect children and support the creation of safer systems responsible for their care. Our network of trained professionals create a ripple effect, influencing their colleagues to better prevent child abuse and protect children in Northern Virginia.
Public Awareness
Making child abuse prevention a community priority.
SCAN’s Public Education Program educates the public—from parents and caregivers to community leaders and neighbors—about positive parenting, preventing child abuse, and strengthening families in Northern Virginia.
Child Advocacy
A voice for children in the court system.
The Alexandria/Arlington Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program provides trained volunteers appointed by the court to serve as a direct voice for children in the juvenile court system. The CASA Program has helped hundreds of children that have been abused or neglected have a voice within the court system.
Protection at every level
We work to stop child abuse in Northern Virginia by focusing on the child first, with a deep understanding of the complexity of child development, abuse, and trauma.
