SAAPM Series: Sexual Assault of Men + Boys
Men and boys encompass a wide, diverse range of people, with various life experiences, identities, and needs. But too often our society applauds displays of invulnerability and denial of pain, crowning them “manly”. This huge misconception leaves many oblivious to the sexual victimization of men and boys. While sexual violence can be recognized as a gendered issue, we can also acknowledge that survivors who identify as men and boys need support in finding healing. During this session, the presenter will address the factors that lead to misunderstandings about men and sexual assault, explore the social and cultural stigmas associated with sexuality and victimization, and offer strategies for engaging men and boys in violence prevention.
